Each school year, Berkeley Haas students print 773,754 pages of paper! That’s almost 4 TONS of paper– weighing the same as about 13 (THIRTEEN!!!) Grizzly Bears! 

 

Being the smart students you are – we know you already know that printing uses a lot of our valuable resources – like money, trees, water and energy.

 

Instead of using this time to tell you more about the problem, we want to talk about how YOU can be part of the SOLUTION! 

 

To help us save resources and fulfill Haas’ vision of becoming the most sustainable business school in the U.S. (and world!), we invite you to sign up for our first ever Paper Saving Challenge!

  • Our zero waste and paper-saving efforts are noticed across campus – If Haas shows our commitment to saving paper, other departments will follow!

  • As one of the top business schools in the world, other B-schools are watching us. Let’s be a positive role model for all business schools and motivate them to reduce their paper use as well!

The challenge officially starts on Wednesday, October 17th – join the fun and commit to PRINTING LESS!

You could win HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS of prizes by participating, not to mention the ~good vibes~ of knowing you are making a difference in reducing Haas’ environmental footprint!

TEAM CHALLENGE

Teams are based on your year and program – it’s a friendly competition to see which group of students are the biggest paper savers!

  • Business Admin Juniors ('20)

  • Business Admin Seniors ('19)

  • MET & Global Management

​

How to Win:

  • The winning team earns bragging rights for being the greenest group at Haas!

  • Teams earn points based on their percentage of paper reduction in comparison to the pre-competition baseline period.

How to Enter Team Challenge:

  • Everyone is automatically entered into the team challenge.

  • Even if you don’t want to join the individual competition, you can still reduce your paper use to earn points and bragging rights for your team!

Could YOU be Haas’ biggest paper saver? - Sign up!

 

1) GREATEST % PAPER REDUCTION

Individuals who reduce their paper by the largest percentage by the end of the 2-week competition (Wednesday, October 31) are eligible to win the GRAND PRIZE - a $100 gift card!

  • 2 winners will be selected for this grand prize! (You AND one of your friends could each win $100!)

  • If more than 2 people tie for greatest paper reduction, the winners will be randomly selected from that group.

2) GREATEST PARTICIPATION

You can also win additional prizes by doing various paper-saving behaviors throughout the 2 weeks!

  • So even if you don’t win the grand prize for greatest paper reduction, there are plenty of other opportunities to earn points and win other prizes!

How to Enter:

  • In order to be entered into the individual competition, you must sign up via this Google Form

  • Winners are students that reduce their paper use by the highest percentage!

  • Up to 2 possible winners

PARTICIPATION PRIZES 

  • Each additional point = an additional entry to bonus prize raffles

  • Hundreds of $$$ worth of gift cards for Amazon, etc. 

HOW TO WIN MORE INDIVIDUAL POINTS!

Each point = an additional entry into the raffle to win gift cards!​

  • Sign up for the individual challenge  - 5 points!

  • Follow us on Instagram @Haas_Sustainability - 2 points!

  • Refer friends to join the challenge (each referral gets you Points) - 2 points per referral

  • Post a selfie of yourself signing up for the Paper Saving Challenge! - 5 points!

  • Post a paper-saving selfie! - A picture of yourself taking a paper-saving action! - 10 points!

  • Submit a paper saving idea - 5 points!

    • These will be shared throughout the challenge to help inspire you with new paper saving ideas!

  • Submit a blog post about your paper-saving experience (High Point value!) - 20 points!

  • Make a pledge to continue to save paper after the challenge is over - 15 points!

    • It's important that we continue to save paper long after the challenge is over. Make a public, written pledge to conserve paper the rest of the school year and beyond!

      • Even better if you say HOW you are going to do so!​
